🔎 Filters, sorting and search

How shoppers narrow your reviews down: search, the star, photo and attribute filters, the five sort orders, the result count, empty results and the three ways more reviews load.

A product with dozens of reviews needs a quick way in. Above the reviews on your product page, shoppers can search the reviews, filter them and sort them, and the list updates as they go.

The toolbar

The search box, Filters, sort menu, open filters and active filters numbered

➀ Search. Finds reviews by the words in their title and text, as the shopper types.

➁ Filters. Opens the filters. Its number counts the filters in use.

➂ Sort. Changes the order of the list.

➃ The filters. Stars with how many reviews each, photos or videos, and your questions about the reviewer.

➄ Active filters. How many reviews match, each filter in use with its ✕, and Clear all.

Filters

  • Rating. Reviews with that many stars. One star at a time: picking another switches to it.

  • Media. With photos or With videos.

  • Your questions. Reviews whose writer gave that answer, like Oily under skin type. One answer at a time. On a product page it offers only the questions that product's reviews answered.

Filters of different kinds combine, so a shopper can ask for 4 star reviews with photos. A click on a rating bar in the rating summary picks the same star filter. A filter with no matching reviews, like 1 star on a product nobody gave 1 star, can't be picked.

Your questions about the reviewer become filters on their own: Show attributes on your widgets explains which ones.

To show only reviews with photos or videos from the start, set Show in the Grid Reviews Widget or the All Reviews Page, or Content in the Home Carousel. The PDP Reviews Widget always lists every review, and shoppers filter it themselves.

Sort

The sort menu open
  • Most recent. Order: Newest first. The default.

  • Most useful. Order: The most Useful votes first.

  • Highest rated. Order: 5 stars first.

  • Lowest rated. Order: 1 star first.

  • Oldest. Order: The first reviews first.

Pick the order the list opens in with each widget's Default sort setting.

When nothing matches

A search with no results and the Clear filters button

The list says No reviews match these filters, with Clear filters to bring every review back.

Loading more reviews

Pick how the rest of the reviews load with the Pagination setting.

  • Load more button. The count so far and a button that loads the next set. The default.

  • Numbered pages. Page numbers with Previous and Next.

  • Infinite scroll. More reviews as they scroll, with no button.

Numbered pages

Reviews on first page sets how many show first, and Reviews per load more how many each button click or scroll adds. Change the button's text with Load more label.

On phones

The filters open on a phone

The search box takes the full width, with Filters and Sort side by side under it. The filters open as a panel, and Show N reviews closes it on the matches.

Links that keep the filters

On product pages, the star, photo and video filters, the search and the sort show in the page address. A shopper who shares or reloads the page sees the same reviews. Answer filters aren't kept in the address, and the Reviews Sidebar and All Reviews Page leave the address as it is.

Settings

  • Show search. The search box. Default: On.

  • Show filters. The Filters button. The rating bars still filter when it's off. Default: On.

  • Show sorting. The sort menu. When it's off, reviews keep the default sort. Default: On.

  • Default sort. The order the list opens in. Default: Most recent.

  • Pagination. Load more button, Numbered pages or Infinite scroll. Default: Load more button.

These are the PDP Reviews Widget's names. The Grid Reviews Widget, Reviews Sidebar and All Reviews Page have the same choices under their own names, listed in each widget's article.

💡 Tip: Ask one question about the reviewer, like skin type or usual size. It becomes the filter shoppers reach for first, because it finds reviews from people like them.
