Importing a CSV of reviews: mapping its columns, checking the rows and starting the import

Start an import

The Import reviews card with its parts numbered

➀ Import from. Generic CSV for a file of product reviews, or Store reviews for reviews of your business, such as your Google reviews. Quoli template takes a file in Quoli's own columns, such as an export, without mapping. To import another review app's export as it is, pick the app here instead.

➁ Skip reviews imported before. On by default. A review matches by its ID in the file, or by its product, reviewer, rating, text and day.

➂ Import published reviews as pending. They stay off your store until you publish them.

➃ Your file. Drop it here, or click Choose a file. The import opens on its columns.

➄ Template and sample. A blank file with every column, and 10 sample rows that show what each one takes.

Map the columns

The Mapping step with its parts numbered

➀ Your columns. Each column in your file, with its first value.

➁ Maps to. What Quoli reads it as. Columns with common names are matched for you. A column with answers to your own questions, like skin type here, maps to that attribute, and New attribute from this column makes one. Skip this column leaves it out.

➂ Required fields. A product ID or handle, a rating and the review text. A store review needs no product.

➃ Validate file. Checks every row. Back picks another file.

Column

What it takes

Product ID or Product handle

The product's ID, numbers only, or its handle, the last part of its URL. One of them is needed.

Product name

Kept when the product isn't in your store.

Rating

1 to 5. 4.5, 4/5 and ★★★★ work too.

Review title and Review body

The headline and the text. Product reviews need the text.

Reviewer name and Reviewer email

No name shows as Anonymous. The email is never shown on your store.

Date

2024-03-21, 2024-03-21 14:05 or 21/03/2024

Store reply and Reply date

Your public reply, and when you wrote it.

Media URLs

Links to photos and videos, separated by commas. Quoli copies them.

Review status

Approved, Pending, Archived or Rejected. Empty is Approved.

Recommended

Yes or No, the answer to your yes or no question.

Order ID, Source, Location, Helpful votes

The order, where it came from (store for a store review), where the reviewer is, and how many found it helpful or not.

Reviews from a file are never marked Verified: that comes from Quoli's review requests, or another review app's own export.

Check the rows

The Validate step with its parts numbered

➀ The count. How many rows were checked, and how many are valid, have errors or have warnings.

➁ Issues. Each one's row, field and what's wrong. An error, such as a missing rating, keeps the row out. A warning lets it in with a default: a date it can't read becomes the day you import.

➂ Continue. With the valid rows, or Back to mapping. To import the rows with errors, fix them in your file and import it again.

Import

The last check shows the file and how many rows it will import and skip, with both options again. Add an email under Notify email to hear when it's done, then click Start import.

You can close the page while it runs: it keeps going and shows under Recent jobs on the same tab. When it's done, you see how many reviews came in, the rows that need attention, and Download full error report. Recent jobs keeps every import, with its report.

After the import

  • Each review shows Imported as its source in Reviews, and its timeline says it was imported from a CSV file.

  • Published ones show on your store and count in your star ratings. Store reviews go under Store reviews.

  • Photos and videos that couldn't be copied are left out, and the result says how many.

Your reviews come back out in the same columns with Export your reviews.

💡 Tip: Try five rows first. Save a copy of your file with just those, import it, and check them on your store. Then import the full file: Skip reviews imported before stops the five coming in twice.
